All Star Game: Success or Flop

All Star Weekend

The all Star weekend was held in Ottawa last weekend and had a lot of hype and disappointment leading up to it. First off there was the Tim Thomas incident where he refused President Obamas invitation to the White House. There was also Ovechkin who refused to play because of being suspended by the league on a controversial hit.

Now getting down to it is the All Star game that great of an event to market ? Are there many opportunities for companies to show off their brands? Well this guy thinks so. How can people not watch the all star game Hockey is pretty much in our Canadian blood, and with your favorite players playing with their rivals it always ends with a good showing.

but what makes such a great experience for fans to tune into watch the event and for people to pay premium for seats? It takes people like Ovechkin, Patrick Kane, Zdeno Chara, Corey Perry these are the types of players that people watch not just because of their skill but because of their love for the game, if you think back to Rome and about the Gladiators it wasn't about fight or who won..well sometimes but it was more about getting the crowd involved, theres a saying that if you win over the crowd you will win the game. This is what those players do they engage the crowd and give them a show whether it be Kane and his superman pass, Perry with his mini stick, or Chara with his record slap shot. The fans go there for a show.

The NHL must realize that by keeping out players like Ovechkin who play hard and get the crowd excited and evolved they will lose views and money during All Star Weekend.

What are your thoughts and comments.

Health and Kids

Growing up I was the typical kid always active tried to play all school sports to have fun and to miss school for a day or two. My family is also very active when it comes to organized sports my siblings and I all played highly competitive sports growing up and still to this day play and are active. Over the years though I have seen my old high school diminish in its rich school history of sport and being able to compete with the best. For instance the high school I attended was known for soccer, hockey, and track. Now there is a very little turnout for kids wanting to play at all.

One of the reasons I see this decrease, not just in my old school but also in all schools and organized sports is the rush of new technology that is available to the young generation today. Phones and Computers have increased, that by having a cell phone late in elementary school to early High School is not un-common. I received my very first flip cell phone in grade 11 my little brother received an IPhone in grade 9.

With the rush of new technology we also see an increase of obesity through young children and adults. Who instead of going outside on a nice day are cooped up in their house on their chair on their computer, television, and/or cell phone.

Having organizations like right to play for instance who travel around giving the kids a chance at a healthy life style are what is needed for the future.

330 Studio Kingston is a yoga club that teaches different classes each week. They just ask people to donate to help cover their costs of rent, and instructors.

With the new age of technology we as adults must set a good image for the youth of tomorrow to not only be healthy but also good citizens.
